Our publisher entered public service in 1980, spending most of the next 40 years in law enforcement, public school systems and private health-technology companies. From 2005 to 2017, he managed a successful and innovative state-wide prescription drug monitoring program. A passion that he continues to pursue today.

For every statistic in the prescription drug epidemic stands a real person, their immediate family, friends and associates. Many no longer walk with us, others are addicted. We cannot turn addiction into a stigma, nor death from these drugs into condemnation of character, weakness or a failure of society. Pain is a real experience, just as loneliness, depression and anxiety lead to mental health issues, homelessness and despair.

But we must remember that the vast majority of patients take controlled drugs responsibly and have never used a street drug. We should not create policies or programs that negatively impact a patient’s access to legitimate health care or adequate treatment. Our health depends on logical, compassionate, and outcome focused policy and health care guidelines.

Join us here at PDMPNews in reaching towards an understanding of the issues surrounding drug policy, health and treatment. Be inspired to learn. Like our publisher, dedicate yourselves to finding solutions without judgement.
